Neighbourhood drugstore

Sonia Tebani has always wanted to become a pharmacist. She realized her dream in July 2017 by opening a drugstore at Halles d’Anjou Mall & Market with the help of her husband Nazim Boulassel, an actuary. The two young entrepreneurs decided to build a drugstore that would reflect their professional values, such as expert-level care and close contact with the community. “We wanted to operate a neighbourhood drugstore where we could call people by their names” says the newly-minted pharmacist.

“We wanted to create a community through a personalized and caring approach. We are passionate about creating relationships and are not afraid to go above and beyond to serve our customers. A few times, I even ran out after seeing a customer in the mall to tell her we had received a product she had ordered!” says Nazim laughingly.

“Indeed, our inventory reflects the needs of customers. If they request a specific product, I will do every thing in my power to get it”. This drive explain the large range of natural products they offer, by brands such as Vogel, Bio-K and Abbott.

They also offers INR monitoring, blood glucose screening, blood pressure monitoring and methadone preparation. Their all-week delivery service is much appreciated by their customers, as is their wheelchair, walker and crutch rental options. The couple is currently gearing up to organize thematic information sessions about various health problems.

“At first, my patients were reticent to open up about their various ailments because they didn’t want to bother me. That is not my attitude at all! I’m always happy to take the time to listen to them and get to know them better. Their trust is important to me, each person must feel that they matter” says the frontline health professional. This opinion is shared by the manager: “We take pride in taking the time needed to do things right. We are community-based drugstore, first and foremost, and we make sure everyone of our employees shares those values.”

The couple is proud to note that this attitude has helped them transform their drugstore into a family business, with members of their respective families pitching in to ensure their drugstore continues its focus on quality service.
